Summary
The Walking Dead takes cues from both the comic books and the TV series, but gives us a completely original storyline with new characters. If you can get over the protagonist Lee’s incredible clumsiness, he’s comes across as a remarkably charming guy. That said, the storyline is (in keeping with both the comics and the show) rather bleak.
At times it’s tense, with a payoff that makes bludgeoning zombies quite cathartic. The gameplay is very simple, and while what you’ll mostly do is choose from four replies during dialog with other characters (before a timer runs out), there are some sections where you’ll mouse around the screen to find things to interact with. It sounds more boring than it actually is, and that’s probably because it’s very well paced. A nice option is that you can “rewind” through scenes when loading so you can change some of the choices you made.
The series is broken into 5 episodes. You have pay for all 5, but will automatically get new episodes as they become available (projected to be every month, but in reality is taking longer than that).
The following episodes are currently available:
- Episode 1 – A New Day
- Episode 2 – Starved For Help
- Episode 3 – Long Road Ahead
- Episode 4 – Around Every Corner
- Episode 5 – No Time Left
Performance
Though the visuals are great, and since episode 2 was released we haven’t experienced any issues. We have had a crash to desktop, but the game autosaves (there’s no way to manually save), so it wasn’t the end of the world.
