Diablo III 1.07 to bring the fight to PvP

The next patch for Diablo III will finally bring the long-awaited PvP mode to the game. According to the blog post, it will be for “bragging rights” only, so you’ll still have to keep grinding away (or visit the auction house) to get that sweet loot you’ve been after:

The game doesn’t keep score and there are no objectives. We wanted dueling to be as simple and straightforward as possible, so we created a minimalist system — we know that even without rewards and objectives, some players just want to beat each other up. Some matchups may be one-sided, and we don’t expect that battles will be necessarily balanced.

On one hand, it’s great that Blizzard have decided to just release the thing, balance be damned, but on the other I don’t know that this will be enough to entice players back to the game. Quite frankly, it sucks that Blizzard have done little to address the need to replay sections of the game ad naseum in order to progress.

The patch will bring other changes, including powerups for the Wizard and Monk classes, a new crafting mechanic for inferno level players, new recipes, and increased XP gain at higher monster power levels
