Gun Monkeys Price Drop to Keep Server Monkeys Busy

Anyone playing 2D multiplayer gem Gun Monkeys? You may or may not be alone. But that may or may not be about to change.

In an effort to grow the multiplayer community, Size Five games have announced that they’re dropping the game’s price and bundling an extra copy with new purchases (if you’ve previously bought the game, you’ll find an extra giftable copy waiting for you too now), in an effort to increase the population on the servers:

So, Gun Monkeys needs players in order to play it. You need other people milling around. At times, the servers are quite busy, you can quite happily play for hours. At other times, they’re dead, because everyone who owns a copy of Gun Monkeys is at work or at school or sleeping or playing Rogue Legacy. You have to sell HYPER-LOTS of copies in order for the servers to have anyone in them, triply so if you’re trying to get a game at 4am. This is a fact I now know that I didn’t really appreciate before.

Developer Dan Marshall says that he’s implementing the new price point “extremely reluctantly”, and even invites “angry” players to email with their concerns.

But who knows, maybe this will give the game a much needed shot in the arm and raise its popularity.
