Kickstarter ushers in a wave of new OS X development

Kickstarter has been the source of success for many game developers. Double Fine Productions, the developers behind Psychonauts and Brütal Legends, started their kickstarter project with a goal of $400,000. The project was set to last a month and any previous donations would be refunded if the goal was not reached, there was however no hope of that as after just 9 hours the project became fully funded and within 24 hours they had raised $1,000,000. After a very successful month the project ended with a final total of $3,336,372 and became Kickstarter’s most funded project.

Since this success gamers and developers alike have found Kickstarter to be an incredibly helpful tool in raising funds for game development. We found that a lot of projects were either going to support OS X right from the ground up or would fund OS X development as an ‘overfund’ goal.

We rounded up a few of the more interesting and exciting projects for your perusal [Editor’s note: These are not endorsements, and you should conduct your own research before pledging any money towards any projects on Kickstarter].

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare by Torn Banner Studios – A fast-paced medieval FPS with a focus on online multiplayer.
Mac development will only be funded as an overfund goal if this project reaches $100,000

Monsters! by Zenas Bellace – A retro 2D shooter with a twist, you lose life as you shoot, make sure you collect those hearts!

Planetary Annihilation by Uber Entertainment Inc. – A next generation real-time strategy played over multiple planets and solar systems. A project that stole the contents of my wallet the second it started.

Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse by Revolution Software – A new point & click adventure game in the brilliant Broken Sword series.

Keep an eye on Kickstarter and look out for more exciting projects being developed for OS X in the future.
