As another year comes to an end, we take a look back on what’s been a phenomenal year for Mac gaming, and revisit some of the highlights.
2012 was the year that:
- Brought us the MacBook Pro with Retina
- Welcomed Nvidia back to the fold (but there’s still a long way to go)
- Saw Apple share prices break pretty much every record (before plummeting back down)
- Gave us OS 10.8 Mountain Lion with at least some feigned interest in gaming.
- Saw everyone get their own App Store
- Turned the traditional publishing model turned on its head through kickstarter
- Gog went Mac
- EA announced that Origin would be coming to Mac
- Made games critics turn to introspection over the Doritosgate debacle
- Let you roll your own fusion drive
- Saw big publishers and indie developers flock to the Mac
- Signalled the rise of “free-to-play” but also saw basic gameplay sacrificed in favour of empty reward mechanisms
- And of course, gave you Control Command Escape.
We’ve weathered a storm, changed our name, had a social upgrade, and been given a bunch of games to give away. And even though we’ve still got a big backlog to work through, we’ve had some help, and we’ll continue to bring you the latest Mac Gaming news, reviews of the best Mac games, thought-provoking rants and articles, and tips and tricks.
See you in 2013!

Have to say, I am impressed how GOG delivers their Mac content.

Yes, particularly if you use their downloader app. The only downside is there’s no notification if anything gets updated, unless you log into their website regularly.
